Now another new chapter begins with the opening of an office in Matosinhos, Portugal, about 10 km northwest of Porto.
The newly founded RFA Portugal Unipessoal LDA is a subsidiary of Rocket Factory Augsburg AG (RFA) and is intended to give the Augsburg-based company a competitive edge. By expanding to Portugal, RFA intends to draw on a broader talent pool to further accelerate the development of RFA ONE. CCO Jörn Spurmann said, "The opening of our facilities in Matosinhos and the signing of the agreement with AICEP Portugal are two major milestones for the development of Europe's most competitive launch service."
"Portugal is the home of fine engineering and the composite structures produced there will be extremely difficult to beat."
Stefan Brieschenk, Chief Operating Officer RFA
Already on the previous day, June 29, 2021, Jörn Spurmann highlighted the benefits in terms of competitiveness of RFA ONE in the panel "Micro Launchers - Stimulating the Cooperation Portugal-France" at the Conference of Science and Technology in Portugal (Encontro com a ciencia e tecnologia em portugal, Ciência 2021).
During the inauguration of the new office, an investment agreement worth 9 million euros over 3 years was also signed with the Portuguese trade and investment agency AICEP. Together, RFA Portugal and the Portuguese Center for Engineering and Product Development in Matosinhos (CEiiA) plan to work closely together to develop the composite structures of RFA ONE's launch system. By using advanced composite materials, the aim is to achieve higher launcher performance at lower production costs.
