Levity joining the Space Hubs Network
Published on Wed, 29.09.2021 – 13:47 CEST in Internals, covering LevityAs part of the ESA Global Space Markets Challenge, the Aachen-based startup made it onto the longlist. Now Levity is part of the Space Hubs Network (SUN).
No man has set foot on the moon since December 1972. But in recent years, our cosmic companion has once again become the focus of space travel. While NASA wants to take people there again with Artemis, more and more probes are being launched to the moon. Levity also wants to take payloads there - made possible by the small satellite ESCI-MOON.
Weighing in at 150 kg, the lightweight is making the journey of more than 300,000 km without the use of a lunar rocket. It is equipped with its own electric propulsion system, whose thrust of just 2 x 6 mN is sufficient to reach the orbit of the moon within a year. For this purpose, ESCI-MOON moves on a spiral-shaped orbit around the earth and thus comes closer to its goal piece by piece.
With its inclusion in the Space Hubs Network, Levity can now draw on a wide range of expertise. This is because the program, which is funded by the EU as part of Horizon 2020, aims to support the growth of startups and scaleups in the space industry. To this end, the initiators organize, among other things, hackathons, workshops and events to bring together entrepreneurs, SMEs, scale-ups and start-ups and to support them in their development.
